Next year is the 150 year anniversary of the first ascent of the Matterhorn by Edward Whymper and his team. To celebrate, the actual route Whymper took will be lit by solar powered red lights. Mountaineers and Zermatt mountain guides climbed the often deadly mountain this week to place the lights in preparation for next year. The test run worked, and we were all astounded by the incredible juxtaposition of brutal nature combined with man’s achievement. Truly majestic, especially in the recent clear weather.
So, what will you be doing next summer? To climb the Matterhorn on this very special anniversary would be amazing. We are thinking about it. Would you dare? It would be tough, but coming home to the luxury of an Elysian chalet and the pampering that is our speciality would keep you going.
