Zermatt summer mountain walk

Get active and soak in the Zermatt summer

Summer Skiing

Zermatt is one of few European resorts that offers 365 day skiing. During the summer there are 21km of pistes available on the glacier in the Klein Matterhorn area for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy. Zermatt’s well known snowpark is also open for those who enjoy freestyle ski.

With strong partnerships among local ski schools Elysian Collection can provide recommendations and attractive pricing on ski lessons and guides.

Make the most of the pristine alpine lakes and strap another kind of board or ski to your feet in the summer time. Schalisee lake has been recently developed with a 109m cable ski tow and is the first of its kind in the region. Make a day of it and enjoy the surrounding grassy fields and larch trees. In line with Zermatt’s view on sustainability, this environmentally friendly cable ski development is electric powered and quiet to ensure the surrounding landscape is not disturbed.

Zermatt Beach

You might be surprised to know that a place like Zermatt has a beach – but rest assured this is a great day out for all ages to enjoy. Sunbake on the banks of the Leisee and take in the views of the Matterhorn in summer. The lake offers picnic areas, barbecue areas, undercover areas and a pavilion for play raft. The lake has a shallow depth which keeps the water warm and makes it the perfect place for a swim. From the Sunnegga lift walk ten minutes on foot or access it by a short funicular lift and you are there.

Mountain Biking

One of the hottest summer attractions in Zermatt is the mountain biking. Whether you’re looking to sink your teeth into some technical downhill trails, or take a more relaxed excursion through scenic mountain vistas; you’ll be waking up each morning eager to get back out there. The Sunnegga, Gornergrat and Schwarzee lifts all provide fast, easy bike transportation to the mountain trails. Another popular option is to ride from Zermatt down to Visp and take the train back up the mountain. With 100km of signed mountain trails on offer, you won’t leave unsatisfied.

Play a round of 9 among the most magnificent mountains you’ve ever seen. The 9-hole Matterhorn Golf Club is located a short ride out of Zermatt between Täsch and Randa. Enjoy lunch in the clubhouse restaurant overlooking the Breithorn and Klein Matterhorn. If you’re around during high summer keep an eye out for the Matterhorn Eagle Cup, an annual tournament held over a weekend in July.
